This June, Vitalogy Skincare’s Dr. Alok Vij presented at the XIV International Congress of Dermatology in Rome, hosted by the International Society of Dermatology. Dr. Vij’s lecture, “From the Surgical Arena: What’s New in Bacterial Infections?” focused on cutting-edge updates in Dermatologic Surgery. He shared the latest strategies for preventing surgical site infections, innovative surgical techniques for treating challenging skin conditions, and new approaches in the fight against antibiotic resistance.
The topic of preventing surgical site infections is a critical issue. According to the World Health Organization, surgical site infections are the second most common nosocomial infection in the US and Europe. A nosocomial infection is one that a patient acquires while receiving treatment in a healthcare facility.

About Dr. Alok Vij
Dr. Alok Vij is a Board-Certified Dermatologist and Fellowship-Trained Mohs Surgeon practicing at multiple locations in the Austin metro area, including Vitalogy Skincare’s Georgetown location, just a few miles away from Sun City, TX. A Texas native, he earned his medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine before completing his Dermatology residency and advanced Fellowship Training in Mohs surgery and skin cancer at the Cleveland Clinic.
During his more than eight years on staff at the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Vij trained future Dermatologists, led innovative programs, and published research on skin cancer and new technologies to improve patient care. He continues to share his expertise at national and international meetings, bringing the latest knowledge and techniques back to his patients.
